Quenya: A Man-made Language

𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚: 𝐀 𝐌𝐚𝐧-𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 😯
Time and time again has literature proved to be of great influence in the evolution of languages. ✍️✨

Authors such as Shakespeare have changed the meaning of several words by the way they employed them, most of which we still use on a daily basis; other authors, particularly science-fiction writers have either invented or popularised terms meant to describe the amazing phenomenon their stories revolved around (i.e.: ‘robot’🤖, ‘spaceship’👽, ‘atomic bomb’💣).

Some authors, however, took it one step further and not only did they influence existing languages, by they created one (or in the case of this specific author, more) brand new language, equipped with its own grammar rules.
⭐⭐⭐

Let us take a look at one of the many languages this writer has created on his own accord: 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚, 𝐛𝐲 𝐉.𝐑.𝐑. 𝐓𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐞𝐧.

Klingon: A Fiction-to-Reality Phenomenon

It is not unheard of that some languages created for fiction have grown beyond the limits of the work for which they were created 😯
▶Tolkien’s Elvish, Game of Throne’s Dothraki, among other

⭐⭐⭐

Nevertheless, the impressively rapid expansion of this language in particular makes it stand out from its peers.

Despite its short existence, Klingon has had a fascinating history, ✨starting off as gibberish and then rapidly evolving into a usable means of communication with its own vocabulary, grammar, figures of speech, and even slang and regional dialects, nowadays spoken by people all over the world, in many contexts. 👽

History of Yiddish

The term ‘Yiddish’ literally means “Jewish”. However, linguistically speaking, Yiddish is the language spoken by Ashkenazi Jews, which uses the Hebrew alphabet.🤔

It originated during the 9th century in Central Europe, providing the nascent Ashkenazi community with a High German-based vernacular fused with elements taken from Hebrew and Aramaic, as well as – later on – Slavic languages, and traces of Romance languages. 🌍❤️

The History of Welsh

Located in the United Kingdom, Wales is nowadays proudly bilingual, speaking both English and Cymraeg, otherwise known as Welsh. Derived from Celtic, it is one of the oldest living languages in Europe, dating back to at least 4,000 years ago. 🌍✨

However, if History has taught us anything is that these dualities are, tragically, hardly the result of a peaceful consensus but rather an enforcement of one dominating nation over the other, imposing their own culture and language until the original one has all but disappeared. 🙊🙉

Sadly, Wales was not spared of that harsh reality. 📚

En la nota de nuestro blog (link en la bio) 📇 te contamos todo sobre Gales.

Semanalmente subimos contenido bilingüe para que sigas practicando tu inglés. 🏃‍♂🏃‍♀
