A new model of the popular electronic toy from the 90s will be released to mark the 25th anniversary of its original launch.
The Tamagotchi was created in 1996 and it was originally the size of a keychain and came with a black and white pixelated screen. The virtual pet simulation game allowed users to raise a creature from the moment it hatched from an egg. Much as it works with a pet in real life, it needed taking care of, feeding, entertainment, and love. The toy fascinated millions of people around the world and led users to become surprisingly close to their virtual pets. Eventually, its popularity faded with the widespread use of mobile phones and other portable electronic devices at the turn of the century.
The new Tamagotchi Smart, is a smartwatch that comes with a touch screen and microphone. This will allow users to pat and talk to their virtual pets, as a modern-day way to take care and show affection. It also includes a cooperative mode, which enables interaction with other people’s pets, such as visits and playdates.

Una nueva versión del popular juguete electrónico de los 90 saldrá al mercado en conmemoración del 25 aniversario de su lanzamiento original.
El Tamagotchi, creado en 1996, era un dispositivo del tamaño de un llavero convencional, en cuyo interior vivía una mascota virtual a la cual había que alimentar, cuidar y brindar cariño. Con una pantalla en blanco y negro pixelada, se podía ver a la criatura nacer de un huevo y crecer. El juguete se convirtió en una obsesión para millones de personas en todo el mundo, y llevó a que los usuarios establecieran vínculos estrechos con la criatura encerrada en una pequeña pantalla monocromática. Su popularidad bajó a principios del siglo con la masificación de celulares y otros dispositivos electrónicos portátiles.
La nueva versión, Tamagotchi Smart, es un smartwatch que viene con pantalla táctil y micrófono. De esta manera se podrá acariciar y hablarle a la mascota virtual, como parte de los cuidados y demostraciones de afecto que necesita para crecer. A su vez cuenta con un modo cooperativo, que permitirá que los usuarios se conecten con dispositivos de amigos y hagan interactuar a sus mascotas virtuales, incluso permitiendo que las criaturas vayan de visita a otros smartwatches para jugar.
[ENG] Beauty and the Beast prequel in production
Disney+ gave green light to a new live-action musical series set in the «Beauty and the Beast» universe. The production, which will consist of 8 episodes, will be a prequel to the film released in 2017. The series will star Luke Evans and Josh Gad, who will reprise their roles of the arrogant hunter Gaston and his goofy sidekick LeFou.
Even though details of the production are yet unknown, Disney+ has stated that the series will follow the adventures of Gaston, LeFou, and the latter’s half-sister Tilly. Set years before the love story between Bella and the Beast, the show will explain how Gaston and LeFou became friends, as well as reveal how a mystical sorceress cast the enchantment that turned the prince into a beast.
The prequel will be called ‘Little Town’, a clear nod to the song ‘Belle’ from the 1991 animated film. Alan Menken, composer of the original «Beauty and the Beast» soundtrack, will be responsible for writing the new songs. On the other hand, the producers announced that the film has added actress Briana Middleton in the role of Tilly and that filming is expected to begin in 2022.

Disney+ anunció que lanzará una serie musical ambientada en el universo de «La Bella y la Bestia». La nueva producción será una precuela de la película estrenada en 2017. Contará con 8 episodios y estará protagonizada por Luke Evans y Josh Gad, quienes retoman sus papeles del arrogante cazador Gastón y su inseparable y tonto amigo LeFou.
Si bien todavía no se conocen mayores detalles de la producción, Disney+ anticipó que la serie contará las aventuras de Gastón, LeFou, y Tilly, la hermanastra de este último. Situada años antes de la historia que conocemos, la ficción explicará cómo Gastón y LeFou se convirtieron en amigos, así como también revelará cómo una hechicera mística lanzó el encanto que convirtió al príncipe en bestia.
La precuela se llamará ‘Little Town’, un claro guiño a la canción ‘Bella’ de la película animada de 1991. En este sentido, contará con la colaboración de Alan Menken, compositor de la banda sonora original de “La bella y la bestia”, y que será el responsable de escribir las nuevas canciones. Por otro lado, los productores anunciaron que la ficción sumó a la actriz Briana Middleton en el papel de Tilly y que se espera que el rodaje empiece en 2022.

The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development will set up a federal network of sanctuaries that will promote the proper management of wildlife specimens that are rescued or seized in illegal trafficking operations throughout the country. To this end, the Ministry is calling for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centres throughout the country to get together.
It is the aim of the federal network to promote regional cooperation and coordination between the different actors involved in order to achieve the health, physical, psychological and behavioural rehabilitation of the animals. Subsequently, the goal is to release them into their natural habitats or transfer them to suitable locations.
Last September, the Ministry created the Environmental Control Brigade, which has already carried out more than 60 operations related to the illegal wildlife trade. So far more than 600 animals were recovered. Last week, a Bengal tiger, a lioness, a coypu, and a capybara were rescued from captivity on a farm in the south of Santa Fe. They were found in precarious conditions, in poor health and living in unsuitable cages.
[ESP] Nueva Red Federal de Santuarios para el bienestar animal
El ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible anunció la creación de una red federal de santuarios que buscará promover el adecuado manejo de ejemplares de fauna silvestre rescatados o decomisados en operativos por tráfico ilegal en todo el territorio nacional. A tal fin se convocará a centros de rescate y rehabilitación de fauna silvestre de todo el país.
La red federal tiene como objetivo impulsar la cooperación regional y la articulación con los diversos actores involucrados con el propósito de alcanzar la rehabilitación sanitaria, física, psíquica y conductual de los animales. Posteriormente, se pretende liberarlos en sus hábitats naturales o derivarlos a establecimientos aptos.
En la misma sintonía se creó la Brigada de Control Ambiental en septiembre del 2020, que lleva realizados más de 60 operativos relacionados con el comercio ilegal de fauna silvestre y más de 600 ejemplares recuperados. En este sentido, la semana pasada se rescataron a un tigre de bengala, una leona, un coipo y un carpincho que se encontraban en cautiverio en una finca en el sur de Santa Fe. Los animales vivían en condiciones precarias, dentro de jaulas inadecuadas y en mal estado general de salud.
ENG] Cinemas and theatres allowed again
Last Friday night marked the reopening of cinemas, theatres, and cultural venues in the metropolitan region of Buenos, after several weeks of inactivity due to the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
The protocol approved by national authorities allows a 50% capacity in theatres and shows and 30% in cinemas. Additionally, tickets must be purchased in advance, whether it be online or by phone. To be allowed inside the venues, the public must have a current health affidavit backed by the CuidAr App, as well as have their temperature taken. Moreover, the regulation indicates that the audience is required to «prove their status as such by having the tickets to the show, which must specify the venue they attended, the title of the play or concert and artist, the time of the performance and the number of the seat they occupied».
The decision comes as the national and local administrations ease up the measures after weeks of confinement. Cultural activities were initially suspended in March 2020. A year later they were authorized to resume under strict protocols. However, soon after, as the second wave of COVID hit the region, they were forced to shut down once again.

El viernes pasado reabrieron los cines, teatros y centros culturales en la región metropolitana de Buenos Aires, tras varias semanas de inactividad debido a las restricciones vigentes impuestas ante la pandemia del coronavirus.
El protocolo en vigor permite un 50% de aforo para salas de teatro y espectáculos y 30% en los cines. A su vez, las entradas deberán adquirirse con anticipación, vía internet o teléfono. Para acceder a las salas se requiere la presentación de una declaración jurada de salud vigente mediante la App CuidAr, como así también la toma de temperatura. En este sentido, se le impedirá el ingreso a quienes tengan más de 37,5°. Asimismo, de acuerdo con la normativa, los espectadores deberán «acreditar su condición de tal con los tickets de acceso al espectáculo, que deberán especificar la sala a la que se asistió, el título de la obra o concierto y artista, el horario de la función y el número de la butaca que ocupó».
La decisión se toma en el contexto de la flexibilización de medidas luego de semanas de confinamiento en la región. Las actividades culturales habían sido inicialmente suspendidas en marzo del 2020. Un año después, estrictos protocolos mediante, se habilitó la apertura de espectáculos. Sin embargo, el inicio de la segunda ola de COVID en abril pasado impidió su continuidad.
